Energy theft and how to report it

More people are trying to save money by tampering with their meter or connections to try lower their energy bill.
Not only is this illegal but it is also extremely dangerous.
Energy theft puts you and your loved ones at risk. If you suspect someone of stealing energy, you should report it straight away. It can be done anonymously.
Signs of energy theft
Common signs of gas meter tampering include:
- Pipes that look out of place and rubber pipes that should be metallic
- The smell of gas near the meter box
- There is no dial, or the dial is not moving correctly
- No credit showing on the meter, but the gas is still working
Common signs of electricity meter tampering include:
- Changes to your wiring that look out of place
- Unexplained damage to the meter
- Smoke or sparks near the meter or in the home
- A burning smell
- No credit showing on the meter, but the electricity is still working.

How to report energy theft
The risks of energy theft and meter tampering should not be ignored and can be very dangerous. It should be reported immediately.
