Tips for Spring

As winter officially comes to an end and we start to see warmer weather, we've put together some of our top tips to help you make the most of it!

Try gardening

Spring is the perfect time to make the most of the weather and spend some time outdoors. If you don't have a garden of your own, you could try visiting a community garden. These are shared gardens where communities have the chance to grow their own food. They're usually free and are a great way to meet people in your local community.

If you're stuck for ideas on what to grow, hardy flowers like pansies, primroses or daffodils are great spring flowers. They tend to thrive in cool weather and are a great way of adding colour to your outside spaces.

You can also try planting early vegetables like lettuce, carrots, or peas, which do well in raised beds or pots.

Do a spring clear-out

Spring is a great time to get rid of anything you no longer use, like old clothes, kids' toys, or household clutter that takes up space. You can donate or sell things that you no longer need.

It's also a good time to tidy your space and make sure your home is in good order. You can report a repair online if you need to.

Opening the windows in your home on a sunny day is a great way to help air it out and prevent any buildup of condensation, which can lead to damp and mould.

Watch our video on how to prevent damp and mould for extra advice.

Check your finances

It's always a good idea to track your spending habits to help understand where you can save. We have a free online budgeting tool to help you get started, or you can use something as simple as a pen and paper.

Check your bank account for any subscriptions for services you're no longer using and cancel them to save a bit extra every month.

It's also a good idea to check your benefits entitlement, especially if your circumstances have changed recently. You can use our online benefits checker, and our financial inclusion team can help you claim what you're entitled to.
