How using less water helps protect our natural environment

Matt Roberts

Matt Roberts, PR and media advisor

We wouldn’t turn a shower on and leave it. We certainly wouldn’t leave it running non-stop from January all the way through to August. Yet, last year alone, that was the amount of water we were able to save across our organisation.

It shows us just how important water management is.

In 2023/24, we saved 4,338,671 litres of water. This makes a big difference because it can save us and our customers money, and also helps protect our environment.

Reducing our water usage helps to protect natural habitats and ecosystems. Wetland habitats can provide safe homes to lots of different animals, but they are also some of the most delicate habitats in the UK.

We have reduced our water usage in our newly built homes by including toilets which use less water to flush and showers and taps which are more efficient with the water they use.

If we use less water across our business, it also means we are saving energy. This is because there is less water being used that needs to be filtered, heated or pumped around our homes and buildings.

This reduces the harmful emissions we put into the environment.

Our natural environment is extremely important to us as an organisation and protecting it can be done in lots of different ways.

Reducing our water usage is just one of the ways we have been doing this, and an area we continue to look to find new ways to improve in.
